01 — ANATOMY OF A SHEET

What's actually inside your plywood

Plywood is built from thin wood veneers stacked with each layer's grain turned 90° to the last, then bonded under heat and pressure. That cross-graining is the secret — it cancels out the natural tendency of wood to warp, and spreads strength evenly in every direction.

1
Face veneer

The visible surface — smooth, sound and ready for laminate, veneer or paint.

2
Cross-band cores

Alternating layers of dense hardwood that give the board its strength and stability.

3
Glue line

The resin bond — BWP/phenolic for waterproofing, MR for moisture resistance.

04 — BUYING & CARE TIPS

Get more from every sheet

01

Check the stamp

Look for the ISI mark and grade printed on the edge — genuine boards are always stamped.

02

Weigh it up

A quality board feels dense and heavy — a sign of solid, gap-free hardwood cores.

03

Store flat

Keep sheets flat and off damp floors before use to preserve their shape.

04

Seal the edges

Edge-band or seal cut edges to lock out moisture and finish the job cleanly.

05 — GLOSSARY

Plywood terms, plainly

BWP
Boiling Water Proof — plywood bonded with phenolic resin that withstands boiling water without the layers separating.
MR
Moisture Resistant — bonded to resist humidity and everyday dampness, ideal for dry interior use.
IS:710 / IS:303
Indian Standard specifications that define marine (710) and commercial MR (303) plywood quality.
Ply / Veneer
A single thin sheet of wood. Multiple veneers cross-bonded together make plywood.
Core
The inner layers of a board. Denser, gap-free cores mean more strength and better screw hold.
Calibration
Sanding a board to a precise, uniform thickness so panels sit flush and true.
GSM / Glue line
The resin bond between veneers — its type and quantity decide water and strength performance.
Warranty
The manufacturer’s written guarantee — from 5 years on MR 303 up to 30 years on Club Prime 710.
